Well, portuguese is a hard language to learn, especially if you want to study grammar. But at least here in Brazil we are used to foreigners. So we can understand quite well when people start speaking in a simple portuguese, even if they can't conjugate properly or make some other mistakes. So depends for what use you want to learn the language, if it is only for communication on a trip I believe you will find some nice online courses to learn the basics. I used once Livemocha.com and found it very helpfull, but today I know it's charged.
