7x+5y=1---(i) 7x+y =17 y = 17-7x----(ii) Substituting y=17-7x in equation (i): 7x+5(17-7x)=1 7x+85-35x=1 84=28x x = 3. Putting the value of x in equation (ii), y = 17 - 21 = -4. To check put the values of x and y in any of the given equations.
