Debate: should the driving age be raised to 18?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hell no!!! ive worked hard enough to get my dirvers license tomorrow , it would ruin my whole year if i had to wit till i was 18!! plus 18 is too old! poeple can get jobs at 16 why cant they drive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah it must be because of frequent accidents !!!!as ppl do not learn traffic rules properly!!!!!

First of all, I'd say no, bacause sometimes people do not live nearly from the school, so it's hard for parents to bring them there.. That's why drivers license should be kept as it now. Trust me, I am living in Europe, where we can't get our license until 18, it'd probably increase accidents number, but economy would be raised aswell.

In Michigan, there are restrictions on driver under 18 years of age. I think this is a good thing. Too many young drivers think they know it all, and get themselves, or others, killed. Kids... yes, kids... are not always mature enough to handle the responsibility of driving. A car is a very dangerous piece of equipment and should only be operated by those who respect its power. Unfortunately, this means that even responsible young people have to wait a little longer to get their license. I'm willing to deal with that if it saves lives.

Well, where I'm from, the legal driving age is 17 but most kids get it at 18. They're trying to change it to 21, which is preposterous -.- But it should be 18. I mean, my brother got his licence around that age and while he might be a good driver, he's not exactly very responsible. So far, he's gotten into two accidents, and hit a motorcycle.

Well to put it simply the arguments against the raising limit is easy however to do the for you could put the same arguments back. This being that teenagers are not yet ready for the right to drive this is due to the lack of responsibility that most teenagers have. Though all teenagers suffer at this it's still a sense of security on the road and around others.

Driving should not be based on age at all. It shoudl be based on maturity, yearly physical driving test, and medical exams.

OpenStudy (jwheele1):

There are 20, 50, and 90 year olds who should not be behind the wheel of a car and there are 12 year olds who can drive semis perfectly.

OpenStudy (jwheele1):

i think that a person should probably be at least 16 ot old enough to take care of themselves in a court room if they have an accident though.
