Given the function f(x) = 3x + 1, evaluate f(a + 1).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you have something like this, just treat the "a+1" as the input, just like the "x" was the input for f(x). So whatever you do to "x", instead do it to "a+1"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x) = 3x + 1 means "take x, multiply by 3, and then add 1" So take "a+1", mult. by 3, and add 1. But be careful to multiply (a+1) by 3, not just "a"
