Please help: Find derivative of the function f(x) = x+1/x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have worked through the problem three times now and i keep hitting a road block towards the end

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Rewrite 1/x in exponent form. that should help a little bit. \[1/x = x^{-1}\] Then just remember the power rule. IMPORTANT! When you decrease the power of a negative number, it actually gets LARGER in the negative direction (if that makes sense).

i am supposed to work through the problem using limit definition...the longer method

oh i see XD
