Help please(: -3x + 2y = 8 change the equation into slope-intercept form. Be sure to show all of your work. Identify the slope and y-intercept of the equation.

OpenStudy (aripotta):

ok, so we have to rearrange the equation to y = mx + b

OpenStudy (aripotta):

what should we do first?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont kno thts the only thing i need help with, changing it to sope-intercept form lol

OpenStudy (aripotta):

alright, but to get y on the left side by itself...what do we do?

OpenStudy (aripotta):

if we have to do the opposite to cancel it out...

OpenStudy (aripotta):

and we have to get rid of -3x...

OpenStudy (aripotta):

how would we cancel out -3x? what's the opposite?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

add it somewhere lol?? sorry im hopeless lol jk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh 2y?

OpenStudy (aripotta):

you were right, we have to add it :) add 3x to both sides of the equation. on the left, it would cancel out

OpenStudy (aripotta):

the equation would look like this now: 2y = 3x + 8. so you can see that we're really close to our answer

OpenStudy (aripotta):

how do you get rid of the 2 in front of the y?

OpenStudy (aripotta):

did you get the answer already or do you not understand? :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i had a phone call with my mum, but okay i see. how do u get ride of y o.O

OpenStudy (aripotta):

don't get rid of y lol. we need y in the equation. remember, y = mx + b. we have to get rid of the 2 in front of the y. how do we do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ops lol okay lets see...ummm...

OpenStudy (aripotta):

2y means 2 times y. if we have to do the opposite, what do we do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide both side by 2 and get 3/2x+4?

OpenStudy (aripotta):

the first part was right. after we divide, we get: y = 1.5x + 4

OpenStudy (aripotta):

which would be our answer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol yeah the same as 3/2 (:

OpenStudy (aripotta):

oh right

OpenStudy (aripotta):

sorry, i wrote down 1.5. i didn't even think as 3/2 as the same thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha its okay but thanks again the last thing u helped me with was the same as this kinda i feel stupid xD

OpenStudy (aripotta):

it's alright :) you're still learning

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha yeah true xD
