OpenStudy (nhhulie33):

I'm a little confused as to the difference between a phase plane and a phase portrait. What is the difference precisely?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The phase plane is a two-dimensional analogue to the phase line for an autonomous, first-order differential equation. The phase portrait is simply the phase plane populated with equilibria and particular solution trajectories (or phase curves.)
