for what values of x is each equation true ..... x-a=b

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

x - a = b solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could be that easy, I suppose...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would be the answer ?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

add a to both sides what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused since you dont know what the variable are how do you add

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

let me give an example a - b = c if i add b to both sides a - b + b = c + b since b and -b are common terms, i can combine them..which will be 0 so i have a = c + b

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

do you get the idea?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

good x - a = b add a to both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so would it be x=a+b

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the value of x in the expression is x=a+b

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks alot !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for ax=b the answer would be ab=x
