A city has streets that run north and south and avenues that run east and west, all equally spaced. Streets and avenues are numbered sequentially, as shown in the figure. The walking distance between points A and B is 7 blocks—that is, 3 blocks east and 4 blocks north. Two friends live in the city, one at the corner of 7th St. and 4th Ave., and the other at the corner of 27th St. and 26th Ave. They frequently meet at a coffee shop halfway between their homes. (a) At what intersection is the coffee shop located? (b) How far must each of them walk to get to the coffee shop?
graph the points (4,7) and (26,27)
does that help?
no -_- ive been trying all night to get this answer..
the midpoint is the average of the two coordinates \[(\frac{4+26}{2},\frac{7+27}{2})\]
i get \((15,17)\)
now you have to compute the distance from say \((4,7)\) to \((15,17)\) from 4 to 15 is 9 blocks, from 7 to 17 is 10 blocks, so i think it is 19 all together
hmm maybe i made a mistake
yeah, from 4 to 15 is \(11\) blocks, total is 21
