A bookstore had 80 copies of a magazine. Yesterday, it sold 2/5 of them. Today, it sold 1/4 of what remained. How many copies does the bookstore have left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Divide 80 by 5 to get 16. That is 1/5. so 2/5 is 32. Divide 32 by 4 to get 8. that is 1/4.

Sorry, I didn't read the entire questions properly. It had 48 left after the first day. 1/4 of 48 is 12, so it had 36 left.

There were 45 runners to start a race. In the first half of the race,1/3 of them dropped out. In the second half of the race, 2/5 of the remaining runners dropped out. How many runners finished the race?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you divide 45 by 3, you get 15. 15 is 1/3 of 45. So that leaves 45-15 = 30 runners. The second half, you divide 30 by 5 to get 6. 6 is 1/5 of 30, so 2/5 of that would be 12. 30-12 = 18 runners finished.
