Eli’s cat had 8 kittens, and Eli would like to know their average weight. They are sleeping in a basket that weighs 4 pounds and are too small to handle. However, if Eli weighs the entire basket, kittens and all, the equation k=1/8w – 1/2 will give the average weight of the kittens. What is the average weight of the kittens if w = 17? Write your answer as an ordered pair.
I do not understand the definition of writing answers in pairs. But when viewed from the issue, you can simply calculate the average weight of a kitten by entering w values into the equation, because the equation is the average weight of a kitten.
As I read the question, k=(1/8) w – 1/2 gives the average weight of a kitten. w appears to be the independent variable and k the dependent variable. That could give an ordered pair format of (w,k). So, @HaleyAdams15 should crank out the value of k when w = 17.
