help pls what is a linear function?
An equation which defines a line. You can get a visual representation of the line by plugging in values for x-coordinates and solving for the y-coordinate. The slope intercept form of the linear equation (function) is y = mx + b where m is the slope of the line and b is the y intercept (where the line crosses the y-axis.
A linear function is an equation of a line or parabola that passes the vertical line test, as my 8th grade Algebra 2 teacher is always reminding my class. The vertical line test is to see if the line passes the function... No x value has more than one y value. (No cheating). It's not just a whole bunch of points, they are organized on a line. :)
