When the plus minus thing is there you form two separate equations and solve for x. So it would be x=18+2/2 and x=18-2/2 Solve for x in both

You create two separate equations, one using the plus sign, one using the - sign, and then solve both of them for x.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
1st one: x=18+2/2 x=20/2 x=10 2nd one: x=18-2/2 x=16/2 x=8 So x=10 and x=8
