DISTANCE: You should be able to logically see that the distance between two points can only be positive. SPEED: Speed = distance/time...and since distance and time can only be positive, speed can only be positive. VELOCITY AND DISPLACEMENT: These can actually be positive or negative...the sign is simply an indication of direction.

speed and distances are only magnitudes so they can have only positive values whereas displacement and velocity are vector quantities so they can be either positive or negative depending on assumption of reference axis
