What are enzymes and how are they important in living things?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Enzymes are proteins which catalyse chemical reactions. In short they get the right reactants together to produce products as a rate which is far greater than that which would be achieved without the enzyme. So all the reactions in the cell have an enzyme associated in some way, so nothing would happen without them.

One more thing, you should post these questions in the Biology section so you get opinions from biologists.
