jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
ok is this the full problem?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yeah
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
something seems missing though...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
what do you think it is
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
how many tiles are there? what's the cost per tile? what's her budget?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
there are 474 tiles in all
the total coast of the tiles is 7370.7
She can go up the any amount
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
oh this is the one where each tile is $15.55 right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yeah
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so if the total cost is $7,370.70, then there are 473 tiles (you round down, not up)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
how??

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
oh wait, my bad, I used the wrong numbers
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
it's 474, I somehow got a decimal answer and rounded down
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so what more do you need to know?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
how any tiles does she need to order
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
does it give you an area to work with?

321 in.
327 in.
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
oh i see, so this is a rectangle 321 inches by 327 inches?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yeah
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
how big is one tile?

12 inches
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so 12 inches by 12 inches?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yup
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
ok thanks
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
The total area is 321 x 327 = 104,967 square inches
Each tile is 12 x 12 = 144 square inches
So divide the total area by the area of one tile to get
104,967/144 = 728.9375
Then round up to get 729
So she needs 729 tiles
Note: she will cut the last tile to get the 0.9375 square inches.
