White blood cells help defend your body against diseases. They attack foreign matter that could cause disease in your body, such as bacteria, and viruses.

The body uses white blood cells to fight infection. The interesting thing is that there are several types of white blood cells used to fight different infections. The most numerous type of white blood cell is the neutrophil, which defends against bacterial and fungal infections. They are the major players in the body's defense system. Made in the bone marrow, they are constantly circulating through the blood stream. Once they discover infection, they move out of the blood cells and into the infected tissue to attack it.
