I didn't know antibiotics could cause mutations. I know that random mutations can cause a bacterium to have resistance to certain antibiotics, but I suppose anything that can damage the DNA without killing the organism can cause a mutation to occur.

I know this doesn't address your question, but I've never heard that statement before and wondered if it was legit.
