Show all work. A gardener wants to create a rectangular garden with length of 3x - 2y ft. and width of 3x - 3y ft. What is an algebraic expression for the area of the garden? Be sure to multiply this out, express in simplest correct mathematical form, and include units. please help me understand this!

I got that the area is (3x-2y)(3x-3y)

OpenStudy (kropot72):

You need to multiply out your expression. Can you do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x*3x-3y and -2y*3x-3y right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9x^2-9xy and -6xy+6xy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this right so far

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correction on -6xy+6xy = -6xy+6y^2

OpenStudy (kropot72):

9x^2 - 6xy and -9xy + 6y^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how id you do that did you use the foil method

OpenStudy (kropot72):

3x(3x - 2y) + (-3y(3x - 2y)) = 9x^2 - 6xy + (-9xy + 6y^2) = 9x^2 -15xy + 6y^2
