Why is it when I get +15 notifications they seem to reset?

OpenStudy (compassionate):
At the top left, I get a notification when someone give me best answer, tags me, etc. I currently have 12 notifications, each time I get to 15 they reset for some reason.

Define reset? Does it read 0?
OpenStudy (compassionate):
Yes, like just now. I went from 14 notification to 13. It'll go up and down, and then finally completely reset.
