use the elimination method to solve the system of equations. a+9b=1 a+3b=-5

hartnn (hartnn):

isolate a from first equation a+9b=1 what u get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know

hartnn (hartnn):

subtract 9b from both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay the answer is a=-8 and b=1. I got this by changing the first equation. I times the whole equation -1 and so it would look like this: -a -9b = -1. I cross out both a's because they are oppsite. That leaves me with b and the answers. Now I got -6b and -6. solve for b. B would be 1. Plug -1 in any equation as "b". You would then get a as -8
