For the given functions f(x), write a function g(x) for the transformations: f(x)=-3=5; compression by 1/2; y-axis???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think there's a typo in your function, because -3 does not equal 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so sorry, meant + 5! forgot to shift!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Even then, you're saying \[f(x)=-3+5\]\[f(x)=2\]So there's nothing you can do to compress it; it's just a straight line at y=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me retype it really quickly. so sorry!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x)=-3x=5; compression by 1/2; y-axis <~ there we go!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Vertical Compression/Stretching by n means f(x) becomes f(x) * n Horizontal Compression/Stretching by n means f(x) becomes f(x*n)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would assume 'y-axes' means vertical compression.

ok, thank you so much for your help! my algebra 2 teacher did not teach it very clearly to me
