Seven times a number is subtracted from 15. The result is 42

zepdrix (zepdrix):

7x <-- 7 times a number 15-7x <-- is subtracted from 15 15-7x=42 <-- and the result is 42 make sense? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@zepdrix gave a solid solution, but it's not in the generalized form. Here's the universal relation: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=the+answer+to+life%2C+the+universe+and+everything

zepdrix (zepdrix):

lololol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find x then I would need to undo each side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Seven times a number is subtracted from 15. The result is the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

yah you need to get the x term alone c: requires a lil bit of math there is a positive 15 on the left, subtract 15 from both sides and that will deal with move one of the items to the other side, bringing you closer to solving for x. hope that makes sense c: just post if yer still stuck.

yes it does...I thougt so.... ty
