what, if controlled by the Union, would result in the Confederacy being unable to import or export goods? A-Washington, D.C. B- Richmond C- the Mississippi river D- Gulf of mexico?

OpenStudy (pdpinch):

Can't be A, because the Union already & always controlled Washington. B seems unlikely, beausr Richmond was only one city in Virginia. D is temping. If the Union had Controlled the entire Gulf of Mexico it would have cut off the entire southern coast of the Confederacy. But really, how could the Union have controlled the entire Gulf? I'm pretty sure it's C. So much trade went up and down the Mississppi river and if you look at a map you can see that most of the southern states touched the Mississippi or it's connecting rivers.

is not C
