The picture inside a frame is 3 in. longer than it is wide, and the frame itself has a width of 2 in. on each side of the picture. If the area of the picture including the frame is 108 in2, find the dimensions of the outside edge of the frame. My answer is 9 and 12, i just want to make sure that this is correct.

picture = 5 x 8 (and 8 is 3 more than 5) frame = 9 x 12 (2 inches extra per side, so 4 inches total more in each dimension) and 9 x 12 yields a 108 in^2 area of the picture frame Looks correct to me :)
