help... please anybody?. I have the chart I'm going to post it now answers: y = 7|x + 8| –4 y = –7|x – 8| +4 y = –7|x + 8| –4 y = –7|x – 8| –4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the absolute value function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I've seen this question before. You still don't understand this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't post this before, but nope!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's weird, I'm certain I've seen this question before. Must be another guy with the same question. Anyway, do you know what parent function of absolute value looks like?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is weird you probably have, but no I am homeschooled and do no what i am doing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, do you know what parent function of absolute value looks like?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nooo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You know what "parent function" is, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is what parent function of absolute value look like. |dw:1349038323217:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Notice that in your attachment, it opens downward, not upward. Do you know why?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i really have no idea, can you maybe explain it to me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What don't you understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the answer a?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, It's not a. Since function opens downward, there must be a minus sign outside the absolute value. You get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kinda so would it be c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's correct. 8 shifts the function to the left and -4 shifts it to down. Do you understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yes! no i understand!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Glad you understand now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you for the help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem.
