Hello! Can someone explain what Biomedical engineering means? What do they do? Do we need to get another degree in electrical, mechanical, etc. engineering along with the biomedical engineering degree? Thank you!!!! :)
A biomedical engineer is a standalone degree, as electrical, mechanical, civil, etc. Apply knowledge of engineering, biology, and biomechanical principles to the design, development, and evaluation of biological and health systems and products, such as artificial organs, prostheses, instrumentation, medical information systems, and heath management and care delivery systems. source: http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes172031.htm
if you're in india, and if you still have a choice, plz don't think of biomedical engg. consider something else. biomedical engg - the subject might be interesting, you might enjoy studying and learning stuff in ur academic life. but once you get placed, you wont get paid well, you get to work(mostly) in hospitals monitoring equipment ranging from bedside monitors to mri to what not... everything in hospital, may sound cool in some sense, but imho only the students without proper guidance opt for biomedical and they all regret later.
