determine domain of function f(x)=sqrt of 5-x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I came up w/ (5,-infinity)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

almost correct !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

backwards??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

domain smallest to largest?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

kindof yes.. the thing inside sqrt must >= 0 so, 5-x >= 0 5 >= x x <= 5 domain : x<=5 which is same as, (-inf, 5]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh when i moved the X i was supposed to flip the sign

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you have it right the first time, only thing is you need to include 5 also in the domain.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

[ ] <---- includes boundary ( ) <---- doesnt include boundary

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

(-inf, 5) <----- WRONG (-inf, 5] <----- CORRECT
