How would you solve 3 (2z + 1) = 35? I got down to 6z = 32 but that wouldn't divide equally...

hartnn (hartnn):

thats right. so z will be 32/6 only

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You're going to get a fraction for an answer (which is perfectly legal)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

also, remember to reduce fully 32/6 = 16/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay! well thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do any of you know how I could solve 5/3 ( 15-6) - (6-20)?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the variables are missing and so is the equals sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what does that mean?

hartnn (hartnn):

means u can't solve that...if thats question is correct, then u can simplify to get a value.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you can't solve since it's not an equation (where the variables are missing)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

did you mean simplify? or evaluate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay, maybe that's what threw me off

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if you want to simplify or evaluate, then 5/3 ( 15-6) - (6-20) 5/3 ( 15)+5/3(-6) - 6+20 75/3-30/3 - 6+20 25-10 - 6+20 29 ------------------------------------------------------- This means that 5/3 ( 15-6) - (6-20) simplifies to 29
