Please help me Evaluate f(x) when (a) x=0 (b) x=2 and (c) x=4 f(x)={x+2 if x<2 2x+1if X greater than or equal to 2

hartnn (hartnn):

when x=0, is x<2 ??

hartnn (hartnn):

for x=0 , would u use first (above) function or 2nd (below) function ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first above i think

hartnn (hartnn):

thats correct so put x=0 in x+2 what u get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

hartnn (hartnn):

that will be f(x) when x=0 :) now for x=2 , which function to use ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the second one

hartnn (hartnn):

great! thats correct :) so put x= 2 in 2x+1 and tell me what u get.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks :) and i got 5

hartnn (hartnn):

that is correct :) now can u find f(x) when x= 4 ? which function u'll use ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x+1...?

hartnn (hartnn):

yes, so put x=4 in that and tell me what u get..

hartnn (hartnn):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=4 okay i get 9...?

hartnn (hartnn):

thats correct :) so f(x) =9 when x=4 did u get all 3 parts of solution? any doubts anywhere?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yesss but how do you know which one to use?

hartnn (hartnn):

when x=0, x<2 so use 1st function when x=4, x>2 so use 2nd function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do u know that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks by the way:)
