Elimination would be the most efficient method here because you have one y in both equations with opposite signs. Thus add the two equations to obtain 3x = 18 x = 6 Now substitute x = 6 into either of the given equations and solve for y. Let's choose the second equation. 2(6) + y = 2 12 + y = 2 y = -10 ∴ the sol'n is (6, -10)
