A direct proof is assuming your hypothesis is true, then by using definitions, axioms, theorems previously established and statements that are logically implied by earlier statements in the proof, show that you conclusion is also true.

Or in a nut shell, assume thing 1 is true, then by using math show it it basically equivalent to or logically shows thing 2 is true.
