Help on solving the first step of this equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square both sides ..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you add 4 to both sides, it wouldn't help, because the "+ 4" would be outside of the square root symbol, not under it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no .. for the second i would go with adding 4 to both sides then squaring it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you see its better to isolate the square root and then squaring

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the first one you should square.. for the second you should add 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no adding 7 to both sides wont do any good .. since it wont change anything about the square root \[\sqrt{x-7}+7 \neq \sqrt{x}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is good ..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for me its the same .. you can either divide both sides by 2 or square both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes .. go with this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw but you did it by yourself :)
