ok good next is compound verb... Compound verb means more than one verb for one subject or one compound subject. Correct Examples: John "watered" and "fertilized" his garden. Jack and Jill "picked" apples and "walked" home. Incorrect Example: *Notice the difference here Jack picked apples,and Jill walked home. *This is NOT a compound verb because the two verbs have "different" subjects. ok ok. lastly compound phrases. this is a bit difficult to explain but... Simple Sentence: has one phrase. Example: John ate pizza. Compound Sentence: has two phrases combined with a conjunction, and each phrase can stand alone separately. Example: John ate pizza,and Joe ate a sandwich. Complex sentence: has one phrase that can stand alone, and one that cannot. Example: John ate the pizza that his mother packed. PHRASE 1: CAN stand alone. John ate the pizza. PHRASE 2: Can NOT stand alone. that his mother packed. Compound-Complex Sentence: has two phrases that can stand alone and one or more phrases that can not stand alone. Example: I want to play in the snow, but unless I can find my gloves , I can't. PHRASE 1: CAN stand alone. I want to play in the snow.
