They didn't so much serve as recording of epic poems as they did scenes from the Bible, nor did they unite the iconoclasts and anti-iconoclasts so much as they beautified the cathedrals. They also didn't make Europeans the artistic leaders of the world - but served a more important objective at the time which was to strengthen the Church's ability to teach scripture.
