OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

\[a ^{2}b ^{2}(a ^{-2}+b ^{-2})\]

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

\[a ^{2}b ^{2}(\frac{ 1 }{ a ^{2} }+\frac{ 1 }{ b ^{2} })\]

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

correct so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are They 2 Different Questions?

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

no, same...just showing you my progress and to see if I am on the right track

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You don't need to turn them into fractions

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

oh i see...then what should i do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you see how the equation in the parentheses have an exponent of negative 2 and the equation outside of of the parentheses have a positive two?

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they cancel each other out

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

how so?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one is a positive 2 the other is a negative. it's live 2-2 and they equals zero. do you have any answer choices?

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

i believe the answer is (a^2)+(b^2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

But you said they cancel...if they cancel how do they equal what i just wrote?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i worked it out wrong

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):

Thank you for the help but I must admit I'm not sure how to do this problem. I'll just have to give it more time i guess.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (babyslapmafro):
