I am mother of 11 yer girl. Is there any set of rules or formula for beginners algebra? I mean - - answer will be positive but like -2 -4 = -6

First step: Buy a book.

i had a lot of trouble with positives and negatives when I was in elementary. I used to use the "color counter trick". its really fun!

first you have to let your daughter know that -2-4=-6 is the same as -2 + -4= -6

then draw 2 circles, or counters.

there is a negative sign in the middle. these counters represent the -2 in your example.

then draw 4 more negative counters, representing the -4 in your example.

count all the counters. how many counters in all?
