hydrophobic/lipophilic molecules will passively diffuse through phospholipid bilayers due to the hydrophobic forces pushing the molecules out of the hydrogen bonding network to minimize gibbs free energy.

On epidemis: same principle, except they're just passively diffusing through the lipid bilayer
