Part 1: Explain, in complete sentences, how to use the distributive property to simplify the expression below. 2(4 + x) Part 2: Write the simplified expression.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Step1. Multiply each number or variable inside the parenthesis by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First distribute 2 to (4 + x) 2 x 4 = 8 and 2 time x equals 2x. 2x + 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill continue with @sue101 's process. to solve for x, make 2x+8 equals to 0 and solve it :d from there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x + 8=0 2x=-8 x=-4

hi, distributive property is quite easy to understand. let's use your problem as an example to go along. 2(4+x) well, what do we know about the word "distributing"? It means to hand out something right? in math it's like the same thing. except you're distributing the number outside the parentheses to the variables/numbers inside. Let me show you what i mean. |dw:1349306607246:dw|
