OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

-4(-2x-3)=-9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply everything in the parentheses by -4.

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

i did got 8- -12=20 how do you get it to equal -9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you distribute the -4 you should get: 8x+12=-9 A negative times a negative= a positive

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

right eight is positive but -4*3=20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its -4*-3 it equals 12

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

do i make the 3 neg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The 3 is already negative. just multiply everything inside the parentheses by -4 and you get 8x+12=-9

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

i did

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

-4(-2x - 3)=-9 (-4)(-2x)-(-4)(3)=-9 8X- -12=-4

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

i

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

i dont get what i did wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get -4 on the right? we havent done anything to that. When you distrbute, you multiply the number outside times the terms inside individually. -4(-2x-3)=-9 -4*-2x=8x -4*-3=12 8x+12=-9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then subtract the 12 from both sides: 8x=-21 divide by 8 x=-21/8

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

ok

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

2.625 as answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you want decimal form then yes.

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

dont know trying to learn

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

teacher gives me worksheet he

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're welcome

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think x is = to 2.625 but not sure.

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

i have x =2.6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah that should be correct i just brought out the two other decimal places.

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

did i do it right or im i wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think your answer is right

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

okay thanks for your help on this problem you are my life saver in math class

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No Problem.

OpenStudy (mariebrittany07):

bye

OpenStudy (anonymous):
