5/6 divided by 4/10

OpenStudy (baldymcgee6):

\[\frac{ 5/6 }{ 4/10 } = \frac{ 5 }{ 6 }* \frac{ 10 }{ 4 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need to make it into a mixed number then put it in its simplest form

OpenStudy (baldymcgee6):

When we multiply fractions, just multiply straight across... \[\frac{ 5/6 }{ 4/10 } = \frac{ 5 }{ 6 }* \frac{ 10 }{ 4 } = \frac{ 50 }{ 24 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but its divided by not multiplied

OpenStudy (baldymcgee6):

\[\frac{ 50 }{ 24 } = 2+ \frac{ 1 }{ 12 }\]

OpenStudy (baldymcgee6):

if you notice, I flipped the denominator of the original question and multiplied.

OpenStudy (baldymcgee6):

when you end up with the 50/24, ask yourself. How many times does 24 go into 50, and how much will remain. Then you will get your mixed fraction.
