A candy store makes a 13–pound mixture of gummy bears, jelly beans, and gobstoppers. The cost of gummy bears is $1.00 per pound, jelly beans cost $2.00 per pound, and gobstoppers cost $2.00 per pound. The mixture calls for three times as many gummy bears as jelly beans. The total cost of the mixture is $20.00. How much of each ingredient did the store use? 8 lbs gummy bears, 2 lbs jelly beans, 3 lbs gobstoppers 3 lbs gummy bears, 6 lbs jelly beans, 4 lbs gobstoppers 6 lbs gummy bears, 2 lbs jelly beans, 5 lbs gobstoppers 8 lbs gummy bears, 3 lbs jelly beans, 2 lbs gobstoppers

Ok, gotta concentrate...
Strategy: look for equations... hopefully there are multiple equations to help you solve the multiple unknowns or variables.
Total cost: $20 Total cost is the cost of each amount of candy times its cost per pound. Does that sound reasonable?
@JakeV8 yep
The one with 6lbs on gummy bears.
Could you please explain how you got that answer?
6x$1=$6 this is the price for 6 gummy beans. 2x$2=$4 this is the price for 2 jelly beans 5x$2=$10 This is the price for 5 gob stoppers If you add up the price you paid for all of the sweets, this comes to $20 for this combination. If you add up the price for other combinations you will get a different price (ie not $20)
Alright! thanks!
Sorry, gummy bears not gummy beans
lolz
No worries!
6. 2 lbs of jelly beans x 3 = 6 lbs of gummy bears $1 x 6 lbs = $6 $2 x 2 lbs = $4 $2 x 5 lbs = $10 $6 + $4 + $10 = $20 If the mixture calls for 3 times as many gummy bears as jelly beans and the total is $20.00, 6 lbs gummy bears, 2 lbs jelly beans, 5 lbs gobstoppers would be the answer.
