What is the origin of the idiom "worms in stomach" for someone who eats a lot? is there any biological background to it?

I've never heard that idiom, but I suppose it could have something to do with intestinal parasites.

oh. i was thinking tapeworms...

It was once believed that tapeworms could help you lose weight,actually. They can't, since they take such a tiny amount of nutrition from the host, but some other parasitic worms probably can.
