how do you do sysytems of equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How big is the system? (how many equations?) And what kinds of equations? linear, quadratic, . . .?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an exapmle Solve the system of equations by substitution. What is the solution for x? 2x + y = 1 4x + 2y = −2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. Substitution means to solve one equation for one of the variables, then plug that expression into the other equation to solve for the other variable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

e.g. you can solve the first equation for y: y=(1-2x), then put that (1-2x) in place of y in the second equation, and you can find x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ill try that, still confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does your second equation look like this now? 4x + 2(1-2x) = −2
