Write the equation of the line that is parallel to the line 3x − y = −3 and passes through the point (4, −2). y = -1/3x − 6 y = -1/3x − 14 y = 3x − 6 y = 3x − 14

substitute 4 into x and see if y equals three. This occurs at: y=3x-14 . Parallel means same slope. (i.e the slope of both lines are 3.) The only line that satisfies both of these conditions is the last one.
