I'm not sure which Akbar you might be asking after? The Akbar I found from Mughal history is considered one of the greatest rulers of the Mughal Empire and a progressive thinker, but he was also ruthless to his enemies and even to his sons. After he died, the Mughal Empire continued to flourish through his successors. There was no massive disruption or decline to the empire's fortunes until nearly a hundred years later when Emperor Aurangzeb's actions, while expanding its borders, ultimately sowed the seeds in weakening it.
His ideas for the "perfect city" and "perfect symbol of Islam" were abandoned forever shortly after his death.
