What can you tell about the cartoonist's opinion of political leaders ? A-Politicians are under the control of monopolies. B-Politicians are trying to stop monopolies. C-Monopolies are created by politicians in Congress. D- Monopolies pay high taxes to support the United States.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is A since the snake(which I think represents the monopolies) has the building at the back(which I think is the congress hall) completely captured and everyone else is scared of the snake which implies that the monopolies control the politicians.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought the snake represented political businessmen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It could also be (B), but the caption is really hard to read. There's a better version located here: http://www.californialawsolutions.com/1/post/2011/4/political-cartoons-of-the-19th-century.html ...which explains what it is supposed to be, where the snake represents monopolies and someone is asking Uncle Sam what they are going to do about it threatening Liberty.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Monopolies isnt a choice, its either powerful businessmen, politicians, poor farmers, or populists.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then I think it is D since the US is represented by the politians, poor people, farmers, etc. and the monopolies pay high taxes to support all these people.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So does the snake represent powerful businessmen , politics, poor famers, or populists ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd agree with that. Monopoly is written on the snake threatening a woman I'm guessing represents Lady Liberty. In the backdrop, to the left, you can see a little guy (probably representing those without the power to stop them) asking Uncle Sam what they are going to do about it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So technically, it's trying to show that politicians are listening to us when we are trying to get them to stop the power of a monopoly which is why I picked (B). At least that's my two cents on why it makes sense that way.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is not b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not D i just took the exam and it said it was wong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It A or C, thats up for you to decide. :p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It was A Politicians are under the control of monopolies
