Can anyone explain how I can install IDLE compatible with python 2.5.6 on ubuntu 12.04?

Have you checked to see if it is already in the Lib\idelib of python. You may be able to run it from there. If not you could always install a new 2.7.x or the enthought distro of 2.7.x. Both are backward compatible with 2.5.x so this may be an easier option.
