The manufacturing cost of a cell phone was $136. Sellers first marked up the cost by 25 percent. Sales were poor, so sellers decreased the markup to 17 percent. Calculate the old and new selling prices. selling price = original cost + markup value A: old price was $170, new price is $164.90 B: old price was $150.12, new price is $117 C: old price was $170, new price is $159.12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know it is A or C.... just confused a lil bit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The best way to do this kind of question is to find out what 1% of $136 is; to do that you need to divide that by 100. What do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.36

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

Hm... i think its b. but i could be wrong so listen to nabizag he's gonna tell you step by step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good work! So now you know what 1% is, to find out what 25% is you multiply 1.36 by 25.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this kind of question is hard to me but i never watched or showed any care abt school work so i dont get it so make sure you pay attention in school.

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

Lol okay im also listening to nabizag

OpenStudy (anonymous):

34?

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

ooh i know what to do now... you add 34 with the original amount which is 136 what would you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah me too. lol. great teacher..... lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

brilliant! So the mark up based on 25% is %34, so now you need to add that to $136

OpenStudy (anonymous):

170

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

yes :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yayyyy.(:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry not %34, thats meant to say $34

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats it, $170 is right. Now we need to find out what it would be with a 17% mark up. How do you reckon you would do that?

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

lol what do we do with the second? do we do the same thing except subtract?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope, you do exactly the same as before but instead of multiplying by 34 we need to multiply by 17.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dang your freakin smart... i couldnt figure it out alone.

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

Lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

23.12 right.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol cheers.

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

ooooh but if we add we get 159 so i was right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now im confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats it!! Good work.

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

Lol so was i but i now get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SURPRISE... lol. i suck at math.

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

we have to add 23 to 136 to get the new amount

OpenStudy (anonymous):

23.12 added to 136. lol. forgot the 12 cents.

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

Well :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but yes that would be 159.12

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

so the answer would be C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it is c.... i was good about narrowing it down to two though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats exactly right! See you can do it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not by myself though. lol. where are you guys from.?

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

:D britney i am asian but not chinese

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol. i'm from Tennessee. . . Sevierville. explains why i dont get pellet.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im from London.

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

OMG NABIZAG !!! I LOVE YOU NOW AND YOU TTOOOO BRITNEY

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha

OpenStudy (omnomnom):

xD well i am a sucker for accents

OpenStudy (anonymous):
