what are the solution intervals for |x + 5| > 3 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because of the absolute values, you you can "get rid of it" by having two seperate equations and having the inequalities be equal to 3 and -3 So with that, you'd just solve it for x....being -8 and -2 With these two x values, you can get a random "x" variable less than -8, between -8 and -2 and greater than -2 so you have three test variables. Plug them in and if it works in any of those sections, you have your intervals!
